many people come to africa every year and manage just fine without a personal guide, just utilizing the driver/ guides that each camp offers. there is no personal bond created with them, you'll be gone in a few days and they just want to show you the cats and some big game! however, by having your own dedicated guide for the duration of your safari, you are guaranteed a memorable experience. with me on hand to explain everything that you witness, you'll gain a better understanding of the real magic of africa. instead of being overloaded with scientific facts that you'll forget immediately i'll be able to translate the wonders of animal, bird and plant behavior in a way that you don't just see the animals, you actually understand and appreciate every little thing... this is what makes a safari memorable! a recommendation from one of my return guests; n ot only is geoff a great photographer and able to advise you on the best settings and techniques to use to turn your photo into something you'll be proud of but his knowledge of the african bush, of each area and of the camps is second to none. by having geoff lead your safari he will take you off the beaten track, away from the crowds and ensure that your safari is unforgettable!” my blog october 2015 click on any image to open a larger version w ell here we go again, time to dust off the old keyboard and revitalize my blogs. by now you'll all have received (and hopefully read!) the exciting news that from 2016 i'll be departing chem chem, my home for the past two years, and moving into full time private guiding! this seems like a natural step for me and, in some ways, i almost wonder why i haven't done this sooner. i love working at chem chem, surrounded by elephants almost constantly and serenaded every night with the roars from our resident lions. but i'm a guide. i love being out and about, observing nature and being able to interpret and explain every little detail to my guests. i'm a bit like the wild animals that i love so much - i hate being confined in the office, i find camp maintenance boring and this, unfortunately, is a key part of being a permanent guide and camp manager. nicolas and fabia, my bosses at chem chem,have been amazing and are supporting this decision 100% which really means a lot to me. and, of course, little chem chem and the burunge concession are making every day even more special. it's incredibly dry here now and our waterholes are the centre of the universe for all of the wildlife in the area. the other day we went and sat at a waterhole for five hours! it was incredible. herd after herd of elephants kept rolling in, we counted more than 200 wildebeest and zebras all trying to take a turn at drinking, warthogs, giraffes and impala all hanging around, and then, just when we thought it couldn't get better, our heavily pregnant lioness put in a cameo appearance! eventually we left to go back to camp because everyone had used up their camera memory cards! anyway, now that you are all hopefully reminiscing about adventures past, and remembering the warm african sun, i'd like to encourage you to drop me an email and let's get talking safaris and adventure! i'm seriously blown away by the help and assistance i've had from camps and operators and can assure you that the prices i can offer are impossible to beat - and if you do, we'll match them! my 2016 calendars are also ready to go into print. limited runs only so you'd better place your orders quickly. proceeds from the black and white elephant calendar will go to wildlife direct, a charity that i work very closely with! if you'd like any of these, or any other of my photos, to hang on the wall in your house or office, or as a really personalized gift for someone special, please just drop me an email. lastly, i'll be in london for a few days in early november (i'm really not looking forward to the weather!) so if anyone is in the area and is keen to meet up for drinks on either 3,4 or 5 november please let me know! it would be really great to catch up with you all! can't wait to have you on safari very very soon! best wishes from the african bush geoff blog archive october 2016 © copyright design by mayes media
